Your Student Guide to College Life

The best thing to happen to parties since the Beer Bong

When the beer bong was first introduced to the college party scene, it changed the game completely.  No one knows for sure when this actually happened, but one thing is for sure, the way that beer was consumed changed drastically.  Well, the same kind of game changing breakthrough is happening right now with the invention of the Beer Belt.  Yes, you read that right… the “Beer Belt”.  This handy tool belt-like apparatus is quickly becoming a must have for every serious partier.  Wearing this thing says two things: 1) I like to party and 2) I should be taken VERY seriously.  It features a sleek black and grey Batman-esque design with slots for up to 6 beers.  That means you can stash an entire six-pack to the neighborhood hot spot and still have both hands available for high-fives and beer bong hits.  You can get it at Urban Outfitters.  Make sure you’re the first one to have this, because you definitely don’t want to be the guy who totally copies the original guy that introduced the belt to the scene.  But then again, this seems like the kind of invention that will be in the hands of just about everyone at a party within the next year or so.

Things to do on Campus When It Rains

When you wake up in the morning and you just want to get out of your dorm because the rain is making your seasonal allergy roommate lose her nose from blowing, these tips will surely help your boredom. Leave that tissue mess behind for a great day with bad weather.

Go dancing in it

There’s nothing wackier or more refreshing than taking a rain dance shower. When you’re in college you’re expected to be crazy and have the time of your life, do it with friends and show some confidence. Maybe your antics will even show off your self-confidence to the hottie across the quad and you can snag a date to the party this weekend.

Do your dirty dishes and conserve water

There is nothing wrong with “Going Green” and on campus where you’re unsure of what’s in the water anyway, it’s a good idea to use the least that you can. Doing your dishes in the rain conserves water and gives you the extra advantage of not having to stare at a full bowl of macaroni in your bathroom sink.

Mud Bowl

Grab your friends, grab a football, and head to the nearest patch of mud with your run down clothes. Start throwing the ball around, wrestle a little, and the let the fun begin. Leave the bikini’s in the dorms.

Mud Sledding on a Hill

You’ve heard of the infamous “snow traying” or sledding in the winter on cafeteria trays. Change it up and make the spring just as much fun as the winter by finding the nearest hill and letting loose your inner seven year-old. You’re bound to start a trend on campus that everyone will be gossiping about the next morning.

Drinking

When in doubt, do what college students are known to do and break out some signature rainy day drinks like dark and stormy hurricane, thunder clap, damn the weather, and tropical rain storm.

Clean your dorm room

Because just like your mother taught you, you always should.

Popular College Beers

Whether underage or of age, the college staple has to be the foamy goodness of beer, beer, and more beer. Here’s the low-down on what brews they are drinking and kegs they are tapping so you can get antiquated before you get to school. Start chugging.

Natural Light

The cheap and easy, most available beer around for freshman.  This is widely popular for games of Beirut or beer pong.

Budweiser

The good old American beer.  Nothing says mid-west more than a Bud.

Guinness

A dark Irish brew, more expensive than your average beer but well worth it.  Goes down as smooth as milk.  Mixes well with Bailey’s for the good ‘ol Irish Car Bomb.

Sam Adams

Cheaper than Guinness but with just as much taste and a variety of flavors.  This is a great choice if you want to keep it classy, but don’t want to spend too much.

Miller Light

For those on a diet, cheap and somewhat good for you.

Pabst Blue Ribbon

The Blue Ribbon says it all, this is some prize winning beer.  Especially when it comes to college campuses.

Most Popular College Party Themes

You’ve got to be creative on a college campus when it’s all been done before. Getting your party on isn’t something to scoff at when reputations and the sake of the whole campus’s good time is on the line. So you don’t make mistakes and do the same thing, here are the biggest campus party themes.

Pimps and Hoes

A scandalous affair with lingerie, chocolate covered strawberries and fun, fun, fun!

Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes

Guys dress up like golf pros, and girls put on skimpy skirts to play the tennis hoes.  Always a good time, just be careful with your clubs and rackets.

Black and White

A party where everyone wears black and white, made popular by The Hills, Gossip Girl, and other popular shows.

Beach Party

The classic luau theme with all the essentials, lay’s, Corona, and bikini’s. What’s great about this theme, is it can quickly become a naked party with the right amount of ‘foreign’ substances.

Playboy Party

Everyone knows this one, bunny ears, skimpy outfits, and paisley robes. Make Hugh proud.

Highlighter Party

Everyone wears a white t-shirt (or white everything), and people write and draw random stuff all over you all while under black light.

Tips and Tricks for Studying Abroad

Make three copies of your passport

This is very important if anything were to happen to the original. Keep one with you at all times, one in a safe at your hotel, and one with your family. If anything happens while you’re abroad, you’ll be able to get back home again with no trouble.

Pay for trip insurance

This is also a must if you get sick or the trip gets canceled. This ensures at least a partial if not full refund of your money.

Pay for baggage insurance

Much like trip insurance, baggage insurance is a must because of the increasing loss of suitcases on planes these days. Better safe than sorry with this one as it’s better to wait a few days for your bags than to have to buy everything all over again in a very expensive foreign country.

If you’re lost, go to a bank

Most tellers who work in foreign banks are expected to know multiple languages including English. So it’s your safest bet if you’re unsure where you are or get lost from a tour group.

Don’t drink alone

This is a rule anywhere, but be especially careful in a foreign country. If you’re going to get plastered, do it with a group of people and make sure you know the area. There are just as many creeps abroad as there are in the US.

Keep everything close to you while traveling

This is crucial in airports and while traveling by bus, do not leave anything unattended or without a body part on it.

Pack light

Don’t bring too much when you study abroad.  You’re bound to buy new clothes while you’re in your host country as well as a bunch of souvenirs.  Leave room in your bags for your new goodies.
